Luzes (subtitulada Xornalismo que conta) es una revista que surgió del convencimiento de sus principales impulsores, los periodistas y escritores Manuel Rivas y Xosé Manuel Pereiro, de que la prensa escrita estaba renunciando a uno de sus principales valores, quizás el mayor: el placer de leer historias de largo aliento, y también el de escribirlas. El grupo fundador, una docena de periodistas, editores, economistas y expertos en tic, sin ningún tipo de inversión ni más ayuda que la de los 700 suscriptores iniciales que confiaron en el proyecto antes de nacer, se lanzó a editarla con la ironía por bandera, como reflejan sus lemas iniciales: "la actualidad está sobrevalorada" y "el futuro es el papel". Además del espíritu de humor resistente, Luzes tiene otros principios: el tamaño no importa si está bien escrito, las imágenes tiene espacio y entidad propia y las colaboraciones se pagan. Desde 2013, Luzes acoge reportajes literarios y gráficos de Galicia, Indochina, Oriente Próximo, Centroeuropa, América Latina o el África Subsahariana; análisis de expertos de todo el Estado y obras de los nuevos valores de la literatura gallega. "En tiempos de oscuridad, cuando la niebla oculta los caminos, hay que encender hogueras y prender las luzes".
Luzes magazine (subtitled Xornalismo que conta) was born of the conviction of its prime movers, the journalists and writers Manuel Rivas and Xosé Manuel Pereiro, that the written press was renouncing one of its major values, perhaps the greatest one: the pleasure of reading drawn-out stories, and also of writing them. The founding group, a dozen journalists, editors, economists and ICT experts, with no investment and no more help than the 700 initial subscribers who placed their confidence in the project before it was even born, rushed headlong into publishing it with irony as its banner, as reflected in its initial slogans: "current affairs are overrated" and "the future is paper". As well as the spirit of defiant humour, Luzes has other principles: size does not matter if it is well written, images have their own space and entity and contributions are paid. Since 2013, Luzes features literary and graphic reportage from Galicia, Indochina, Middle East, Central Europe, Latin America or Sub-Saharan Africa; analysis by experts from around the country and works by the rising stars of Galician literature. "In times of darkness, when the mist obscures the paths, we need to kindle bonfires and turn on the luzes (lights)".
